A Turf War!
Like other grass roots movements, we began small. In our case... a single garden.
Our goal: to radically shrink the cost and “water footprint” of our landscape.
Our method: a turf war against the traditional lawn.
Per year, 1,000 square feet of Fescue grass, fed by sprinklers, guzzles over 33,000 gallons of water. [THE TRADITIONAL LAWN IS] drugged with pesticides and herbicides, which then wash into our water supply by sprinkler runoff. [IT IS] groomed with mowers and trimmers that spew out more greenhouse gas than driving roundtrip between Los Angeles and New York. All this, and the energy to treat and transport the water, comes at an increasingly high price.
On the other hand, we treasure turfgrass for good reasons. A sustainable lawn provides the most pleasing, natural and safe setting for recreation. It absorbs carbon dioxide, releases oxygen, cools the air, purifies our water supply and reduces soil erosion.
The Grass Roots Programs allows you to enjoy these benefits while saving up to 80% on water, chemicals, pollution and maintenance. For maximum ease, we bundle the most water thrifty plant materials and irrigation systems, along with knowledgeable local installers. For maximum affordability, we provide Grass Roots Program incentives along with other conservation rebates.
Please join a movement that is spreading across California and the entire West. Together, let’s make every drop count… one lawn at a time.
